As you may already know, Texas Governor Rick Perry strongly reaffirmed his support for David Dewhurst today, criticizing out of state interest groups for trying to pick Texans’ next U.S. Senator for them. But in case you missed it, here’s an excerpt of what Governor Perry said:
“There are a lot of out-of-state interest groups — whether it’s Club For Growth, whether its senators who have interest in being the next minority or majority leader in the United States Senate — there’s a whole lot of people who don’t intimately and expertly know how Texas operates that have come in and endorsed in this race,” Perry said. “I respect each one of those individuals, but they don’t know anything about how Texas works.”
“If they did,” he added, “they would be endorsing David Dewhurst.”
Ted Cruz, meanwhile, has spent much of the current campaign — with millions of dollars in help from his Washington, DC allies — trying to tell Texans that David Dewhurst is a “moderate” and not a “true conservative.” But there is no doubt that Governor Perry is a model of Texas conservatism and a true fighter for conservative ideals.
And guess what? Ted Cruz agrees!
Watch Ted Cruz endorsing Rick Perry for President last summer, and pay close attention to how he describes the Governor:
CRUZ: “I know Governor Perry, I’ve worked with him, I’ve represented Governor Perry in court. He is a true conservative and he is a fighter in his DNA. We desperately need a strong conservative fighter, to take the lead and fight to stop the Obama agenda, and Rick Perry, I believe, is the right candidate to do exactly that.”
That’s right. The man Ted Cruz himself called a “true conservative” is supporting the true conservative in this race: David Dewhurst.
