David Dewhurst is the most conservative lieutenant governor in the history of Texas. He balanced the budget five times without raising taxes — in fact, David helped pass the largest tax cut in Texas history. Spending went down under his watch, after adjusting for population growth and inflation. With the federal government running up unsustainable debt and continuing to spend future taxpayers’ money, we need a leader who not only says he will fight to restore fiscal sanity, but also has a clear record of doing so.
David Dewhurst is also staunchly pro-life. He passed legislation that bans state tax dollars from funding abortion clinics, and he passed a bill requiring sonograms for women seeking abortions. He is a defender of traditional marriage, passing legislation that defines marriage as between one man and one woman. David has also passed parental consent laws and mandatory sentences for sexual offenders.
David Dewhurst also supports cracking down on election fraud, most notably through his role in passing the Texas Voter ID law, widely recognized as one of the toughest in the nation. In addition, David supports legislation cracking down on sanctuary cities, and under his leadership the state Senate passed such legislation twice in 2011. David even recommended adding sanctuary cities legislation to last year’s special session.
Unfortunately, out of state activists and special interest groups from Washington, DC, have tried to distort David’s clear conservative record in order to influence this election. These outside groups believe they, not Texans, should pick the next U.S. Senator from Texas, and they are spending millions of dollars to make sure their handpicked candidate, Ted Cruz, wins the election.
Washington already exerts way too much influence on Americans’ everyday lives. It’s time to send a message to Ted Cruz and his DC buddies that we Texans know how to make our own decisions, and we certainly know a conservative like David Dewhurst when we see him.
On July 31, vote David Dewhurst for U.S. Senator from Texas.
